Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Stuart Young, assures citizens that measures are in place to guarantee the safety and security of persons who live in, and travel through East Port of Spain.
He gave the commitment while responding to a question on the issue from the Opposition that was directed to the National Security Minister.
Speaking in the Senate this afternoon, Minister Young said the steps are necessary and critical in light of recent protest action in the area in question.
Minister Young again appealed to the Opposition to support the Anti-Gang Legislation when next it comes before the parliament.
Meanwhile, Rural Development and Local Government Minister, Kazim Hosein, described as unfortunate and regrettable reports that a garbage truck driver was threatened into dumping garbage on the street in East Port of Spain on Monday.
He also outlined what measures are being put in place to protect garbage truck drivers working in said area.
Health Minister, Terrence Deyalsingh, also explained that the Upper Laventille, Success Laventille, Oxford Street and George Street Health centers which closed early on Monday had to treat with any life threatening emergencies.
