Supermarkets will be monitored by the Consumer Affairs Division to ensure they comply with fair pricing. The Division indicates from March 2nd to 6th it will monitor forty-two supermarkets through the country.
It adds that this exercise is critical towards providing and helping consumers make informed purchases. On February 1st the new Value Added Tax of 12.5 percent took effect down from 15 percent.
The Consumer Affairs Division has revealed that it has several reports of some businesses not complying with the new VAT regime.
Recently Trade and Industry Minister, Paula Gopee Scoon, urged consumers to be vigilant when shopping and support local agriculture production and farmers.
She also called on consumers to pay attention when making their purchase.
