Even as the Tobago House of Assembly prepares to pay salary arrears to permanent employees of the Tobago Regional Health Authority, confusion looms.
Chief Secretary Orville London has revealed that the THA is seeking clarification on whether TRHA contract workers can be paid.
London said that funds to pay all workers have been secured, but noted that in its correspondence with the Ministry of Health, the THA was informed that contract workers, who are paid based on terms and conditions stipulated in their contracts, are not eligible for salary arrears.
Instead, they receive gratuity payments at the end of their contracts.
London, who is acting in the absence of Secretary of Health and Social Services Claudia Groome-Duke who is away on Assembly business, said that he is working on resolving the issue.
In the meantime however, permanent THRA employees will be paid monies owed to them.
