High taxes and other costs have forced the closure of several gas stations within the past few months. Now many more are on the brink of facing a similar faith due to a lack of profitability. Franchise holders and owns of gas stations across Trinidad and Tobago are holding the Government, especially the Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, Nicole Olivierre responsible for this issue.
Minister Olivierre, however, is of the belief that this lack of profitability has nothing to do with the removal of the Government’s gas subsidy or taxes but lies within the operating expenditure of the gas stations.
In her interview with the Power Breakfast Show this morning Minister Olivierre also commented on the current state of the energy industry where several international companies have begun closing their local offices but reassures that exploration work is ongoing in this country.
