The Ministry of Health gave the confirmation at a conference at its Park Street, Port of Spain head office today, following consultation with the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).
Four of the cases are from Tobago.
Meanwhile, Chikungunya cases stand at 5, while dengue cases to date stand at 25.
The Ministry is continuing to encourage citizens to follow these steps to prevent infection of themselves and their loved ones.
Citizens are urged to dispose of unwanted containers/items in the yard or environs which can collect water and become mosquito breeding grounds; cover water containers with mosquito proof covering; ensure that drains and guttering allow the free flow of water, and empty and scrub the sides of water vases or use dirt/sand instead to support the flowers.
Additionally, citizens are reminded to cover their extremities when out on evenings; use bed nets tightly tucked under the mattress for protection at night, and use insect repellent that contains DEET as an active ingredient.
