This was the statement from former Minister of Planning and the Economy Dr. Bhoendradatt Tewarie, regarding the planned construction of a hotel at the Tracking Station site.
Dr Tewarie noted while speaking on the Power Breakfast Morning show today, that the Chaguaramas area was always intended to be a nature park, totally accessible to the public.
He slammed the government for deeming all existing Chaguaramas Development Authority land development contracts to be illegal, stating that their approach is detrimental to democracy and the attracting of foreign investment.
Dr Tewarie also highlighted that Chaguaramas is a pristine part of the country’s heritage, and should be sustainably preserved.
He further urged that the area should not be left as an undeveloped asset, but rather developed sensibly, with a view to bringing more tourism spend into the country.
