THE ROYALS ARE HERE

The two day visit of Britain’s Prince Edward and his wife Princess Sophie, the Earl and Countess of Wessex has begun.

Prince Edward and Princess Sophie debarked their royal vessel at the Cruise Ship Complex, Wrightson Road, Port of Spain, just before 11 o clock this morning to pomp and ceremony, while being greeted by several cabinet ministers and high profile guests.

The Princess and Princess visited Knowsley Place, His Excellency Professor George Maxwell Richards and his wife, Dr Jean Ramjohn-Richards and later attended a luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

The visit by Prince Edward, the youngest child of Queen Elizabeth II, and Princess Sophie, is part of a global tour through the Caribbean celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and also commemorates 50 years of Trinidad and Tobago’s Independence.

Prince Edward is scheduled to deliver remarks at a special presentation of The President’s Award, part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, and assist the President with distributing medals and certificates to the twenty five Gold Award winners.
