The man was arrested at his home by Scarborough Police, after several young girls made reports against him.
Following the reports, officers visited a primary school on the island and conducted interviews which led to the principal being suspended.
On Friday, he was arrested and charged under the Sexual Offences Act with allegedly committing offences of a sexual nature against a 12-year-old girl and other minors.
