The Tobago Hotel and Tourism Association is suggesting that consideration be given to introducing a tax amnesty in light of the challenges facing the sector and the downturn in the economy.
T.H.T.A. President, Chris James, made the recommendation during an interview with News Power Now this afternoon.
He said this time of year, which traditionally has been an encouraging one for businesses has not lived up to expectation.
Mr. James said the issue is one that the association will continue to pursue since Tobago’s main income earner, Tourism, is now under threat.
Recently an appeal was made by Ken Patino Owner of the Enchanted Waters Hotel and Patino Restaurant in Tobago, for lending institutions to consider softening measures relating to the repayment of loans and mortgage payments amid the tight economic situation.
Mr. Patino in a News Power Now interview, explained that he has been finding it difficult to honor his commitments with the bank in a timely manner due to the slowdown in business.
He also indicated that the commercial bank he deals with has stated they will take action against him.
