Chief Labour Relation Officer of the Amalgamated Workers Union, Rajkumar Narinesingh, cites fairness as a critical factor in negotiations between employers and trade unions on the issue of job cuts or downsizing the workforce.
He made the comment on the Business Corner Programme on Power 102.1FM on Monday afternoon. His comment came as some companies have made it clear that they cannot maintain their present staff numbers as a result of the slow down in the economy as well as declining profits.
Mr. Narinesingh is however saying equity should not be sidelined or treated lightly.
He said it is also important for trade unions to present logical positions as they seek to properly represent employees.
