Trinidad & Tobago men’s futsal team feature in a win-or-go-home match today – Honduras the opposition for the showdown that qualifies the winner of the two-match square-off to the CONCACAF Championship.
The four teams emerging from preliminary play to the CONCACAF finals will earn entry to Futsal World Cup which is set for Colombia.
Last night in Costa Rica the TT team enjoyed a welcome scoreline of a 1-all draw with Honduras in the opening leg of their two-match play-off that advances the winner on aggregate to the CONCACAF main event starting Sunday in Costa Rica.
Match details were not yet posted up to dawn today but the scoreline was confirmed on CONCACAF’s Media.
The draw came on the heels of warm-up matches between last Wednesday and Monday in which defending CONCACAF champions Costa Rica inflicted six-nil and 6-1 beatings on minnows TT who had a confidence-boosting 6-3 win over a Costa Rican club side ahead of yesterday’s match.
TT team coach Clayton Morris in TTFA communiques from Costa Rica had maintained that there were signs of improvement in the team’s play after the first warm-up game loss.
TT who competed in CONCACAF Futsal Championship in 2004 and 2008, defeated Guadeloupe, 5-2, in the Caribbean qualifying tournament’s third-place match to reach the playoff against Honduras. Jerwyn Balthazar was the top scorer in all of qualifying with eight goals.
Honduras is searching for its first-ever appearance in the CONCACAF Futsal Championship. It defeated El Salvador, 5-2, in the match for third place in the Central American qualifying tournament to reach the playoff against Trinidad & Tobago
