This country is ranked 94th in the Global Peace Index Report 2017 and has been named the most dangerous country in the English speaking Caribbean.
The update was highlighted by Edmund Dillon National Security Minister during this week’s sitting of the House of Representatives.
He was at the time responding to a question posed by the Opposition and directed at Dennis Moses Foreign and Caricom Affairs Minister.
The Opposition wanted to find out what urgent measures are being taken to correct this negative image of Trinidad and Tobago.
Minister Dillon quoting from page 17 of the report under the heading Central America and the Caribbean said of the twelve countries in the region five saw their scores deteriorate while the other seven improved.
He added that with respect to Trinidad and Tobago this was on account of a rise in military expenditure as a percentage of gross domestic product and weapons import.
