There has been a breakdown of law and order and respect that people have for each other in society.
This has been some of the reasons given for the increase in violence among students at the nation’s schools by President of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teacher’s Association Devanan Sinanan.
Speaking on the Power Breakfast Show on Power 102.1fm this morning, he revealed that old value systems appeared to be fading fast in today’s society.
He lamented the fact that these days many adults present a poor example to the nation’s youth.
He also commented on a recent situation involving a female student in school uniform openly challenging a police officer.
Three teenagers including a student have been charged following the confrontation with a police officer on Monday along Charlotte Street, Port of Spain.
A video of the incident has been trending on social media and has garnered criticism from many citizens.
Mr. Sinanan disclosed that society had a serious problem when students felt brave enough to challenge the police in that manner.
He also said that teachers have had to deal with that issue at schools for some time.
