Two people have been detained by police in connection with the alleged kidnapping of 14 -year-old Brandon Sam and his cousin, 16 -year- old Darrel Lutchman from their Sangre Grande home on Wednesday night. The boys have since been found. Police found them wandering the streets in Penal at around 8:40pm on Thursday. They had not been harmed.
A $350,000 ransom demand had been made for the boys’ safe return, however the money had not been paid. Brandon Sam’s mother, businesswoman Ria Lutchman told police that the two boys along with her brother were snatched at around 11pm on Wednesday while hunting for wild meat near the family’s home at North Oropuche Road. The woman subsequently reported that one of the boys was released by the alleged kidnapper in Sangre Chiquito on Thursday morning. The release came after the family received a phone call threatening that the boys would be killed if the money had not been paid.
