Union Leaders keeping open mind for this afternoon’s meeting

The joint trade union movement is keeping an open mind going into this afternoon’s meeting with Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar…

President General of the Oilfield Workers Trade Union, and spokesman for the joint group, Ancil Roget, this morning spoke with Newspower Authority… 

He said today’s meeting is not to negotiate but to remove the 5 percent wage cap, which unions have been adamant…should be removed…

In a letter last week, the Prime Minister agreed to meet with the trade union leaders, two days before an issued deadline to their July 7th letter, outlining their list of concerns….or face a national shut down…

In refuting statements by the Prime Minister that the state has not instituted a 5 percent cap on wages, Mr. Roget notes, if there is no positive and meaningful agreements today, union are fully prepared to take strike action…
