Former Attorney General, Anand Ramlogan has been arrested. At around 6am, 12 vehicles carrying police officers led by acting Deputy Police Commissioner Harold Phillip went to Ramlogan’s Palmiste Park home where they executed a search warrant. They subsequently informed him he was being arrested him for two offences.
He faces charges of misbehavior in public office and perverting the course of justice.
Mr. Ramlogan was taken to the Sackville Street Port -of- Spain police station, where he is being held. His charges stem from witness -tampering allegations made by Director of the Police Complaints Authority, David West in January 2015. West alleged that Ramlogan “asked” him to withdraw as a witness for then Opposition leader, Dr. Keith Rowley in a defamation matter Ramlogan had initiated against Rowley.
The defamation lawsuit followed comments made by Dr. Rowley about the controversial Section 34 issue and extradition proceedings involving businessmen Ishwar Galbaransingh and Steve Ferguson.
