The University of the West Indies Studies Guild is proposing to institute in September a Patrick Manning GATE Fund.
President of the UWI Student Guild, Makesi Peters, in a News Power Now interview this afternoon explains that the fund will be used to assist students going through difficulties if there are changes to the Government Assistant for Tuition Expenses Programme.
Government has already assured that GATE will not be stopped.
However, it insisted that there is need to monitor the venture to avoid abuse.
Tomorrow Education Ministry officials will be presented with the report done on GATE by the government appointed Task Force.
Mr Peters added that once that fund is operational accountability and transparency issues will not be treated lightly.
