Vasant Bharath is no longer in the leadership race for the United National Congress internal election to be held on November 26th.
He says his decision to pull out of the upcoming poll was prompted by two factors.
Speaking with News Power Now on Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Bharath said the election process is flawed.
He said earlier this month a request was made for a list of the current membership but he was informed that this would be available on November 22nd. Mr Bharath said his team was also denied an opportunity to install an audit firm that would oversee the voting and counting of the ballots.
Mr. Bharath noted that the constitutionality of the election is another area of concerns but said he has sought legal guidance on this matter.
He said in spite of the development he will continue to be a member of the UNC.
Christine Newallo-Hosein is the lone contender so far challenging incumbent leader Kamla Persad Bissessar.
