In a release sent yesterday, Chairman of the PNM Women’s League Camille Robinson Regis, strongly condemned Majaraj’s attack on the late former Prime Minister Patrick Manning.

She further stated that what is even more disturbing, is the support that Maharaj has found in former Prime Minister and now Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar.

At a screening of local government candidates in Siparia on Friday, Persad-Bissessar said that there was merit to the points raised by Sat Maharaj, when he labeled former Prime Minister Patrick Manning as a racist.

Robinson Regis is slamming Persad Bissessar, calling the Opposition Leader’s support of Mr. Maharaj abhorrent, and noting that as one who was once responsible for leading this country, Persad Bissessar’s role cannot be to pander to the likes of her leader and continue to divide this country along the lines of ethnicity and religion.

Robinson Regis continues, saying Persad-Bissessar continuing to draw strength from the race card, is demonstrating for all to see, how unsuited she was then and now, to be vested with any semblance of political power in this country.

The release ended by stating that Patrick Manning will occupy a place of honour when the history of Trinidad and Tobago is written, on the balance of his contribution to our growth and development, and that the PNM Women’s League is urging Kamla Persad Bissessar to strive for the same.
