One Port of Spain business group says it is concerned about the reestablishment of the wrecking service by the Port of Spain city corporation and the Trinidad and Tobago police service.
Downtown Owners and Merchants Association president, Gregory Aboud, speaking with News Power Now this morning, said the effect that wrecking in the Port of Spain has on the unemployment rate, must be looked at by all concerned.
Coining the current situation a national issue, the DOMA head said the national economy will not, at this time, be able to withstand the effect of wrecking in the city.
Questioned on the announcement by the authorities that all wreckers will be outfitted with front and rear cameras to allow for transparency during the process, Mr. Aboud scoffed, saying that such an arrangement was similar to asking the fox to watch the hen house. He said he would leave the question of whether confidence could be had in the system, to the people of this country to answer.
