SWWTU President Michael Annisette is mooting the suggestion that private ferry companies be allowed to use the port to provide ferry services to the general public.
Speaking this morning on Power 102 FM’s Power Breakfast Show, Mr. Annisette was asked by host Wendell Stephen about the suggestion being floated around that businessmen be allowed to ease the strain on the sea bridge by using the port to provide ferry and transportation services.
Mr. Annisette said this is essentially allowing private boat owners to use public facilities under the guise of assisting the public.
He added that this suggestion demonstrates the mentality of the “1 percent”.
He added that this suggestion is also infeasible as the ferry service is currently subsidized by the Government and so an unsubsidized private ferry service means the cost of travelling between the islands will be astronomically high.
