22 Confirmed cases of Chikungunya in TnT

chikMinister of Health Dr. Fuad Khan  confirmed yesterday that more people have been infected with the Chikungunya virus.

He revealed that at last check there were 22 confirmed cases and over 60 suspected cases.

Khan said the figure was expected based on the size of this country’s population.

Last month the country recorded its first confirmed case of the mosquito-borne disease.

Chikungunya is an illness caused by a virus that spreads through mosquito bites.

The most common symptoms of chikungunya are fever and joint pain.

Other symptoms may include headache, muscle pain, joint swelling, or rash.

Chikungunya disease rarely results in death, but the symptoms can be severe and disabling.

Most victims feel better within a week.
