In the Corporation’s attempt to prevent ChickV from spreading, the Mayor visited the Belmont area yesterday to ensure that overgrown bush and debris were cleared from streets and abandoned lots.
So far there have been 38 cases so far in the Belmont area, and residents have been complaining of an infestation of mosquitoes.
Yesterday Raymond Tim Kee and a team from the Port of Spain Corporation visited the area to get a first- hand view of the work being undertaken by the Corporation to clean up the AREA.
On Davis Street in Belmont workers were clearing the overgrown grass and trees from abandoned lots.
Tim Kee revealed the it was a continuation of a project that the was started by the Corporation 3 weeks ago.
The first phase of the project was spraying.
The Mayor says he hopes the project would be an ongoing initiative.
The Mayor reiterated the importance of clean surroundings in com batting the Chikungunya Virus.
The mayor stated that persons guilty of harboring unclean surroundings would be fined.
