Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has announced the reward for information leading to the arrest, prosecution and conviction of those involved in the murder of senior counsel Dana Seetahal has been increased to $ 3.5 million.
The Prime Minister made the announcement yesterday at an emergency meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) at the San Fernando Teaching Hospital.
The NSC meeting began at approximately 3:30 pm and was chaired by Mrs. Persad-Bissessar.
Government’s $ 2.5 million dollar increase has been added to the initial offer of $ 1 million by Crime Stoppers.
Mrs. Persad-Bissessar stated the Government will provide foreign resources and expertise if the investigation requires such action.
Mrs. Persad-Bissessar revealed the NSC was briefed on the status of the investigation by Acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams and he accepted the offer for foreign expertise to be called in if necessary.
Commissioner Williams gave the assurance that the police is doing all in its power to insure the investigation was completed swiftly.
He also called on the media to refrain from using information not relevant to the case, including information that a panel van was involved in the killing.
