Reports indicate that Tahera Kerr, 31, of Upper Laventille Road, Trou Macaque was standing in her yard around 8 pm last evening with her son Taheen Dunbar next to her when she heard several loud explosions.
Kerr was said to have grabbed her child and ran for cover.
It was after the dust settled that she discovered that she had been shot in the leg and her son had been shot in the chest.
Both mother and child were taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital for treatment.
The mother was treated and discharged however her son’s condition was so severe that he was transferred to the Eric William Medical Sciences Complex for an emergency surgery.
Crime scene officers and members of the Inter Agency Task Force visited the scene and are carrying out investigations.
