1.2 million dollars was the original cost planned to be spent by a state -owned energy company to host a Christmas party at a popular hotel scheduled to take place tomorrow.
Energy Minister, Nicole Olivier, made the announcement in the parliament this afternoon in response to a question posed to her by Opposition Chief Whip, Ganga Singh.
However, she explained that arrangements for the Christmas event started in April this year and subsequent to the government memo the original cost was re-negotiated and a price of 650,000 was agreed upon.
Mr. Singh wanted to know why the event was being held at a renown hotel in light of a memo dated December 8th warning state entities that their Christmas budget should be modest and no events should be held at three well known hotels.
