The Minister of Education has revealed that over a 16 month period, the Ministry of Education has recorded 38 break-ins at the nation’s schools.
Dr. Tim Gopeesingh revealed the statistics in parliament today.
He said this was a significant drop from previous years.
Dr. Gopeesingh gave a run-down of some of the stolen items which include equipment used for technical training.
According to the minister, the cost to secure schools is estimated at $200 million per year.
Dr. Gopeesingh added that a tender is currently out for the provision of perimeter lighting and Closed-circuit television cameras around the schools.
The Minister of Education has estimated that it would take at least a month for work to start on several Early Childhood Education Centres in Northern Trinidad.
Dr Gopeesingh once the International Development Bank is satisfied, work will commence.
