47 litter prevention wardens will assume their positions next week Monday.

In preparation for their duties, the successful candidates took part in an orientation programme recently at the Chaguanas Borough Corporation.

The litter prevention wardens were hired through a competitive recruitment process which began in April with the advertising of vacancies.

The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government explained that over 400 applications were received, including from many applicants who worked previously as litter prevention wardens and whose contracts came to an end earlier this year.

The Litter Prevention Wardens programme has been in place for over 10 years and has recently been restructured to ensure greater effectiveness in promoting cleanliness across the country.
