The verbal war continues between President General of the Oilfields Workers Trade Union and the Opposition Leader over the union’s bid to acquire the Point-a-Pierre refinery.

Last week the OWTU gave the Opposition a two- day ultimatum to make public, its official position on the matter.

In a media release on the issue, the Opposition said it is not against the OWTU and workers and wishes them well in its bid to acquire the refinery.

However, in a media release, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said the UNC is calling for transparency, full disclosure and accountability on this refinery deal. Mrs. Persad Bissessar claims that the OWTU gave no ultimatum when TSTT, Arcelor Mittal and UTT workers lost their jobs.

Speaking at a Divali function in her constituency, Mrs. Persad Bissessar also commented on the issue.

However, speaking at a news briefing on Tuesday, Mr Roget responded strongly to statements he claimed the Opposition leader made.
