Former President of Supermarket Association of Trinidad and Tobago, Kumar Maraj, says there is need for proper legislation to address what he describes as an unfair trade practice locally.

He says an example of the situation has manifested itself with respect to the sale of a particular brand of ham at a renowned supermarket significantly lower when compared to what the same item is sold for at other supermarkets although it comes from the same supplier.

Mr Maraj claims that the issue is one which needs to be resolved through proper regulations that governs the sector.

However, he admits that the consumer has the right to choose where they spend their money.
