A new member to the Integrity Commission has been sworn in by President Anthony Carmona.
Joel Christopher Edwards was appointed t o the commission on Friday, following a swearing-in ceremony in the foyer of the Office of The President, St Ann’s.
Edwards has been a chartered accountant since 1981.
He replaces Seunarine Jokhoo, who resigned as a commission member in April, citing urgent fami¬ly commitments.
The Commission is mandated under the Constitution to ensure that persons in public life and persons exercising a public function comply with the laws governing integrity.
However, the commission cannot address issues without a full slate of five members and have been facing problems since members kept retiring before their term is up.
The body has been described as a toothless tiger by its current chairman Ken Gordon.
