The Minister of Finance and Acting Prime Minister is today stating that he wants to correct inaccurate reports emanating from members of the Opposition that he spoke in Parliament on Friday May 19th 2017 about the legal action brought by Devant Maharaj against the Commissioner of Valuations about Valuation Return Forms.
A media release stated that the Minister of Finance and Acting Prime Minister did not utter a single word in Parliament about this matter on Friday May 19th 2017 and any statement to the contrary is completely untrue.
Further the release noted that when contacted on Friday evening by the media about the decision of Mr. Justice Seepersad which was delivered at about 6 o’clock that evening, Minister Imbert said that the decision WILL BE appealed.
He did not say that it HAD BEEN appealed as by that time the Registry of the Court was closed.
The release went on to state that Attorneys at Law for the Commissioner of Valuations made efforts to get an urgent hearing before the Court of Appeal on Friday May 19th 2017.
However they were advised that the Court of Appeal would convene on Monday May 22nd 2017 at 9:00 am.
Attorneys at Law for the Commissioner of Valuations have since advised that the Notice of Appeal was sent by electronic mail to the Registrar of the Court yesterday copied to Attorneys at Law for Devant Maharaj and the hearing of the appeal has been fixed for Monday May 22nd 2017 at 9:00 am.
