Animal activists are welcoming the decision of Local Government Minister, Chandresh Sharma, to open consultation on the enforcement of the Dangerous Dogs Act of 2000.

The Minister gave the commitment at a conference on the Act at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, on Saturday.

Many have been urging the government to bring the Act into motion, following a series of attacks on citizens, some of which have resulted in death.

In a News Power Authority interview yesterday morning, President of Animals are Human too and former Congress of the People leadership candidate, Nalini Dial, said emphasis must be placed on a holistic approach to tackling the issue.

Ms Dial also indicated her concern with the poor attendance for such an important event.
