“Schools constitute an essential service.” The words of Education Minister, Anthony Garcia who today hosted a media conference, relaying details relative to the reopening of schools and examination dates. It was noted that all schools will reopen on September 1st.

The Minister said there is still much to be ironed out, highlighting that today’s media conference was meant to appease the population specifically on the matter of CSEC and CAPE exams. He gave no further details on how students attending pre- school, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions will be impacted by the lost term’s work.

Minister Garcia said students writing CSEC, which is written by fifth form students and CAPE, which is written by 6th form students, will now commence their exams on July 13th, 2020. The minister said a note was taken to cabinet on Wednesday, and the July 13th date, which was decided upon by all Caribbean CXC stakeholders, was agreed upon.
