Employees of Angostura Holdings Limited held a lunchtime demonstration at the company’s Laventille head office on Wednesday.
Speaking with News Power Now, SWWTU leader, Michael Annisette revealed that the protest was not linked to wage negotiations but rather good governance and management practices.
He explained that the employees are taking issue with the conduct of the company’s CEO Genevieve Jodhan and CFO Jinelle Lambie, who, they believe, do not respect employees and are taking the company in the wrong direction.
In a statement, Mr Annisette further explained that workers are disenchanted with the failure of the CEO to meet and treat with workers in good faith and more importantly, the unilateralism of the CEO by removing long outstanding benefits without consultation and agreement with the union, the SWWTU.
The last two years at Angostura have been turbulent with the company embroiled in several scandals.
Last year, its then Chairman, former Senator Dr Rolph Balgobin was accused of sexual harassment claims by a senior female executive at the company.
Shortly after he was cleared, the female executive who made the complaint was fired.
Several of the company’s executive team have been retrenched, dismissed or resigned within the last two years.
The CEO, Ms Jodhan, was recently also investigated over the allocation of million dollar contracts to a company connected to a serving police officer.
