Angostura Limited has fired the female executive who made allegations of sexual harassment against company chairman Dr. Rolph Balgobin.
The executive was fired on Wednesday following a meeting with the company’s CEO, Genevieve Jodhan and another senior executive. The Trinidad Express says according to sources, her dismissal was related to her work performance.
The executive’s firing was also confirmed by her attorney Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj.
The executive brought the allegations against Dr. Balgobin last year and accompanied the allegations with a lie detector test confirming her claims. She had also filed a police report.
The allegations were initially dismissed without an investigation before media reports that Dr. Balgobin faced similar allegations spanning more than a decade, forced the Board of the organization to convene a committee headed by Diana Mahabir Wyatt to investigate the issue.
That committee was disbanded before the investigation could be concluded and former Justice Rolston Nelson, Chariman of the Unit Trust Corporation, was then chosen to investigate the matter.
Justice Nelson cleared Dr. Balgobin but claims of conflict arose after it was noted that both Dr. Balgobin and Justice Rolston were Government appointed Chairmen.
Since then there have been calls for an independent and transparent investigation into the allegations.
Contacted for comment yesterday afternoon, Angostura chief executive Genevieve Jodhan told the Express Newspaper “We are not commenting on the whistleblower process or policy.”
