An assurance is given to the media fraternity that the Strategic Services Agency Amendment Bill 2016 contains no elements that will affect press freedom.
The commitment comes from Attorney General, Faris Al Rawi.
Recently the Trinidad and Tobago Publishers and Broadcasters Association voiced concern about the bill.
TTPBA also appealed for consultation on the bill before it is made law.
However, the AG told reporters that the government is not in the business of suppressing the media fraternity.
Mr. Al Rawi admitted that there is need for amendments to be made to the Data Protection Act to ensure that press freedom is in no way, stifled.
