The St. Charles RC Church in Tunapuna has been robbed.
Reports are that a brazen robbery during mass on Sunday, has led to an undisclosed sum of collection money being stolen by one assailant.
News Power Now spoke with a member of the congregation, namely an alter boy, who said a change in programming during yesterday’s mass had led to a delay in the alter boys returning to the alter where the collection is usually immediately secured.
The young man said the thief, during that opportune moment, took the money and walked out of the church.
He said efforts were made to find the assailant, explaining that some had noticed him during the mass.
Meantime, the Inter Religious Organisation is strongly condemning the weekend robbery at the Tunapuna based church.
Commenting on the incident IRO President, Harrypersad Maharaj, in a News Power Now interview this afternoon described the incident as total disrespect for a scared place of worship and a blatant act by criminal elements.
The IRO President also called for renewed focus on positive values in society especially at the family level.
