Barbados’ Prime Minister, Mia Mottley spoke on the state of Barbados and the Caribbean region as a whole, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, during a CNN interview on Wednesday. The CARICOM Chairperson said the current climate in the Caribbean is one that has the potential to be as destabilising as World War II.

Speaking openly on the need for a global leadership agenda, Prime Minister Mottley said while it is understood that many countries face hardships at this time, in the Caribbean, the uncertainty is twofold, as many of the islands are reeling from the effects of vulnerability caused by climate challenges as well.

In her 11 minute international interview, PM Mottley was also given the opportunity to shed light on her feelings being the first female Prime Minister of Barbados and certainly one of a very few female leaders who’ve led countries, around the world. Her simple, yet effective, “We Care,” spoke volumes.
