Beach goers and North Coast residents cut-off by landslide

ROCKS FALLINGBeach goers yesterday not only had to deal with rainfall on a day that they hoped would be filled with sun, sea and sand.

They also had the misfortune of being cut off from their home.

A landslip blocked the North Coast Road and a fell tree blocked the Arima/ Blanchisuesse Road stranded hundreds of beach goers who were stuck on the beach or in stand still traffic for several hours while crews worked to clear the blockages.

The Ministry of Works assured the public that it was safe to traverse the North Coast Road.

Beach goers may not have been surprised by the landslip since they are not rare after heavy rainfall.

Austin Alleyne Forman at the Ministry of Works revealed that it has been a recurring problem that has presented a challenge.

Even an expensive fix to the problem would mean significant inconvenience for commuters for an extended period.

The affected portion of the North Coast Road remains blocked.

Officials have revealed that it could take days to clean up all of the debris.
