The chaos which took place on the Beetham Highway earlier today was sparked by angry residents of the area who protested the arrest of two of the community’s well known leaders.
News Power Now understands that the highway has been cleared of all debris which was thrown onto the roadway by the angry protestors.
News Power Now spoke with once activist, Anderson Wilson who said there was no forewarning or indication as to why the two men were being arrested. When asked why residents threw old kitchen hardware such as refrigerators, stoves and microwaves onto the roadway, Wilson said residents were frustrated and angry by the approach officers took.
The police infiltrated the area at around 6 o’clock this morning just before the protest began.
Police have taken up strategic positions along the Beetham Highway, to ensure a continued, smooth flow of traffic following the removal of the debris through the assistance of personnel from the Port of Spain Regional Corporation.
