BIGWU President claims that over 4000 workers have lost their jobs since September

The Banking Insurance and General Workers Union is claiming that more than four thousand workers have lost their jobs since September last year.

BIGWU president, Vincent Cabrera contends that the situation must be strongly resisted by the labour movement.

He was speaking at the start of proceedings at this afternoon’s mass march and rally in the Capital City by trade unions.

Mr Cabrera also defended the productivity levels of the working class adding that employees have contributed significantly to national development.

Meanwhile, Ceron Richards of the Prison Officers Association questioned whether or not citizens were getting value for money from the billions of dollars being spent on national security.

Michael Annisette of the National Trade Union Center during his stint at the podium noted the importance of workers staying focused and determined during these trying times.

Nirvan Maharaj of the All Trinidad General Workers Union pointed out that employees cannot afford at this time to become discouraged in the struggle for improved conditions and benefits.
