The University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) and the Indian High Commission have partnered to bring the Queen of Bhojpuri music, Kalpana Patowary, to T&T as part of Indian arrival day celebrations and the school’s tenth anniversary.
Kalpana and members of the UTT Kathak dance troop are expected to perform at the Naparima Bowl from 6:30 p.m. tonight.
Kalpana’s voice has featured on over 100 Bollywood films and she is known for her ability to sing in a number of different styles and languages.
Meanwhile, Indian High Commissioner, Gauri Shankar Gupta who spearheaded the venture noted the Indian local diaspora has done very well and contributed a lot to society.
Mr. Shankar Gupta said while the language has not endured a number of traditions have survived.
