Member of Parliament for Mayaro, Rushton Paray is calling for a lifeguard patrol unit to be set up along the coastline from Manzanilla to Mayaro following several tragic drowning incidents over the weekend.
In a media release, Mr Paray said there should be additional resources at the Manzanilla-Mayaro stretch to prevent these accidents, especially during the July/August vacation.
He extended his condolences to the relatives and friends of the families affected by the unfortunate incidents at the Mayaro and Manzanilla beaches over the weekend.
Mr Paray also urged bathers and visitors to exercise caution when visiting beaches and to obey the guidance and instructions of lifeguards, since this could be the deciding factor between life and death.
He is also calling on the relevant authorities to provide support and counseling to the respective families.
