President of the Police Social and Welfare Association (PSWA) Inspector Anand Ramesar yesterday called on Government to pay $1 million in compensation to the wife of the deceased Police Constable Anson Benjamin.
Yesterday, Ramesar expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Benjamin on behalf of the PSWA executive and membership.
However, he issued a clear warning to Government that if they did not issue a statement on the status of the $1 million compensation, the matter will be taken to court.
Reports have indicated that the Ministry Of National Security and the Police Officers Association are in talks over how or if families of officers killed in the line of duty could be compensated.
Under the last government, there was a plan to give the relatives of those killed in the line of duty one million dollars but according to the Minister of Communication Maxie Cuffie, this was not regulated.
