Even as Calypso finalists get ready to take the stage in the ‘Big Yard’ on carnival Sunday, there’s word that one of their comrades is presently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (PoSGH).
Two-time Calypso Monarch Sandra “Singing Sandra” DesVignes-Millington was at the Institution to have hernia surgery, and had to be admitted to the ICU following complications.
Reports indicate that earlier this week the 57-year-old complained about suffering from what DesVignes-Millington believed to be gas pains.
According to reports, DesVignes-Millington was alert and able to convey responses yesterday when spoken to by visitors and the ICU medical staff.
The Calypso power house performed at Kaiso House Calypso Tent this carnival and although she did not make it into the Calypso Monarch semifinals (Calypso Fiesta) she was at Skinner Park to support other artistes.
Last September, five-time Calypso Monarch Leroy “Black Stalin” Calliste suffered a stroke and continues to recuperate at his home in San Fernando.
A benefit concert is to be held for him after Carnival.
