Caribbean chikungunya continue to rise

Mosquito 2The numbers of confirmed chikungunya virus cases in the Caribbean continue to rise and Ministry of Health has advised citizens to be on alert.

Trinidad and Tobago has been one of the countries lucky enough not to have any confirmed cases; however, in the region there have been over 4,000 cases with the French Caribbean being the infectious region.

The symptoms for the virus are similar to that of dengue fever, but only difference is that suffers are left with severe muscle pain.

With the rainy season underway the Ministry has asked citizens to take prevention measures.
