The Justice Ministry is still interested in closing down the Carrera Island Prison.
Justice Minister, Emmanuel George, gave an update on the plan while speaking in the Senate today.
He was at the time contributing to debate on the Miscellaneous Provisions Prisons Bill 2014.
Last year then Justice Minister, Christlyn Moore, speaking at a post-Cabinet news conference at the Office of the Prime Minister, St Clair said “Cabinet agreed to the closure of Carrera Prison by December 2013.
Minister George indicated that upgrade work continues at the Maximum Security Prison and once this is completed the plan is to relocate Carerra prison inmates to the facility.
