Cash and Carry Supermarket burnt

Fire officers are said to still be at the Cash and Carry Supermarket, at Tumpuna road Arima, where fire broke out just after 5 o clock this morning.

 Up to news time officers could not say what caused the fire…. 

But information reaching our newsroom indicates that a lone security guard at the supermarket reportedly saw thick black smoke coming from the Southern side of the building.

We are told the fire controller in Chaguanas was contacted and the Arima fire Service was alerted…

Officers were able to contain the blaze, however when they arrived they experienced problems accessing water.

 Eventually assistance had to come from Tunapuna and San Juan….

 Damages have been estimated at over three hundred thousand dollars….

 16 permanent employees are said to be without jobs now…
