yesterday’s Post Cabinet Media Briefing.
Today, Former Housing Minister and Oropouche East Member of Parliament,
Dr. Roodal Moonilal is saying this will make no difference at the company. He
said the company is plagued by corruption and nepotism.
Noting that CEPEP is closely linked to environmental protection and care, the former housing minister explained that this was the
reason for the company to be placed under the stewardship of the Ministry of Public Utilities. He said under the Rural Development
and Local Government Ministry, there will be more room for politicization of the programme.
Meanwhile, one political analyst says the CEPEP programme must be transparent. Speaking with News Power Now this morning,
Bishnu Ragoonath said there is need to streamline the operation to avoid any risk of discrimination.
CEPEP recently announced plans remove contractors who had spent more than three years in the programme. In a statement, the
company said the move had become necessary because the programme had “deviated from the principles of transparency and
uprightness” over the years.
